2026 Food Garden for a Neighbour

In 2026, Cara Gardens completed the installation of three new raised garden beds for a local neighbour, creating a productive food garden designed to make fresh herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers more accessible at home.

The purpose of the project was to turn a small growing area into a practical food-producing space that could support the household throughout the season. Raised beds were used to keep the garden organized, manageable, and easier to maintain, while still allowing for a diverse mix of crops in a compact footprint.

The garden included tomatoes, zucchini, peas, beans, radishes, garlic chives, basil, parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme, sage, and lemon balm. Nasturtiums were also incorporated to bring colour into the garden while supporting pollinators and beneficial insects.

This project focused on more than simply planting vegetables. It was designed to encourage homegrown food, sustainable gardening habits, and a stronger connection between people and the plants they rely on. Even a small garden can provide fresh ingredients, reduce dependence on store-bought produce, and give people something meaningful to care for through the growing season.

For Cara Gardens, this project reflected the value of helping neighbours build practical growing spaces where food, education, and community care can come together.

Future expansions of the food garden are being blueprinted, and implemented in 2027.
